Chequered Plaid Afghan

Designed by Dorothy Warrell. Intricate looking design is made easy by carrying colors as you work, then panels are sewn together. Kit includes Mary Maxim yarn and pattern.  Finished size 45" (114.3 cm) x 66" (167.64 cm).  Requires Crochet hook H-8 (5 mm). 

The Chequered Plaid Throw creates a two-color plaid in a non-traditional method using creative stitchery. Repeat contest winner Dorothy Warrell, uses Mary Maxim Starlette in white and light grey in the pictured example, however any two contrasting colors could be used to create a plaid that will delight the eye.

While creating the Chequered Plaid Throw, the crocheter will be kept both entertained and engaged by the pattern. Although the pattern may seem intricate, it uses only single crochet stitches while changing colors and manipulating the yarn without cutting and creating ends to weave.

Mary Maxim Starlette yarn is a worsted weight yarn that is easy to work and when necessary, carry under working stitches and create a look such as the one in the Chequered Plaid Throw. The Chequered Plaid Throw will keep the crafter busy and involved while the graphs change back and forth to create the designs necessary. This creates a double thick blanket and adds extra warmth to our already cozy Mary Maxim Starlette yarn.

The Throw is created with panels that are then crocheted together using Mary Maxim Starlette to create one large piece. The Chequered Plaid Throw pattern includes graphs of both panels for those that might find them an advantage to work with on patterns. Once the Chequered Plaid Throw panels have all been pieced together, the border is worked with white Mary Maxim Starlette and completed with a reverse stitched enhancement in the light grey.

The border frames the Chequered Plaid Throw perfectly, setting off the stitch work in each panel beautifully and enhancing the design. Dorothy Warrell designs continue to delight Mary Maxim customers and the Chequered Plaid throw is no different with its use of Mary Maxim Starlette. Plaid is a timeless pattern and the Chequered Plaid Throw can rest on the back of your sofa or on the end of your spare bedroom, either way as a welcome to all who visit.
